The U14 team has a number of fixtures throughout the season with other local clubs nde also compete in theBerkshire Youth Cup. These are listed on the website along with other news just like it is for the seniors, and other age groups in the forthcoming 2015/16 season.
All our coaches are appropriately qualified with the RFU (four at Level 1 and two at Level 2 Certification), and are fully CRB checked to ensure a consistently high quality of coaching that always places safety and enjoyment to the fore. Most of our coaches began by preferring to get involved, rather than watching from the sidelines, and we welcome and encourage parental involvement at all levels, be it as coaches, first-aiders, referees or just vocal support!
In the interests of safety and appropriate behaviour, we would remind parents that they (or another nominated adult) are required to remain at pitch side during the training sessions/matches.
Come and join us at our training sessions held at 10am every Sunday morning from September to May on the Home Park sports ground in Windsor. These training sessions comprise warm-ups, fitness activities, ball handling skills and match practice. Children are allowed to attend 3 training sessions to see whether they enjoy tag rugby, before we expect them to join the club.
Squad Selection Policy and Criteria for U14s
The selection criteria adopted by the Club at Under 14s will be based on: Attitude, Ability and Attendance. Moss importanly of all, though, is that the children enjoy the competitive nature of the sport, improve their skills, fitness and have FUN!
Competition is inherent in rugby, and whilst we strive to ensure that all players are included, good performance will be recognised and rewarded where possible. Whilst turning in a good performance is the best way to catch the coach’s eye, ability alone does not guarantee a place. All players are encouraged to aspire to reach the top, whilst those already there must guard against resting on laurels. Mini rugby is all about player development, and we hope to help all players reach their full potential. As we know every child develops at different rates and it’s important that we take account of this. We'll also take the decision to rest players where appropriate and will rotate starting line ups within squads from time to time.
Rugby is a game that requires courage, discipline and respect for others. We aim to reinforce and foster this in all players, emphasising and encouraging positive behaviour in all players. Ill-discipline, foul play or other breaches of the good players code will not be tolerated, and will be dealt with appropriately. If you can't listen, you can't play and this applies to fellow team mates as well as the coaches. Rugby is a team sport and no individual is more valuable than the team.
A record of attendance is being kept each week, as is a record of who is selected for competitive fixtures/tournaments. In this way, we aim to ensure that all players have an equal opportunity to play at an appropriate level. No player can expect to play in every game. Furthermore, just as no player can expect a place in the team just by turning up on the day, commitment will be rewarded with opportunity. Therefore it is crucial that you ensure you register each week.
In order for us to run effective training sessions it will be helpful to know who will be there each Sunday. This allows us to select teams for both competitive and training matches in advance and to design the training content and squads around those players who will be there. To this end if you know you can not attend a particularly weekend it would be great if you can email or let one of the coaching team know in advance, if at all possible.
