The club is extremely saddened to learn of the passing of HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, KG, KT.
Prince Philip became the club’s Patron in November 1952 and remained Patron for 69 years till his passing today, 9th April 2021. The club were extremely thankful for the Patronage which Prince Philip took on from our previous Patron, the then King George V1 who died in February 1952. King George had been Patron of the club since 1937.
Prince Philip visited the club on a number of occasions, the most recent in 2013 to attend a first XV pre match league lunch. The lunch was also attended by club representatives from the Minis and Juniors section, senior players, committee and local dignitaries. At the lunch it was noticeable that Prince Philip wore the club tie and was pleased to be presented with a pair of silver cufflinks, engraved with the club’s logo. Prior to this, Prince Philip came to the formal opening of the clubhouse refurbishment in 2003 when Peter Blake OBE was the Clubs President.

Prince Philip was also a Postminder and attended a lively Postminders Annual Dinner at the club, one he enjoyed considerably, staying on till the early hours!
