It is with great sadness that the Club learnt of the recent passing of one of its favourite sons, Peter Blake OBE. Peter passed away on the 12th April in the stroke unit at High Wycombe Hospital. As many of you will know, Peter had been ill for some time and spent several months in a care home prior to suffering a stroke and being moved to hospital.  He died quietly in his sleep; Peter was 81 years old.

Peter came to live in Windsor from Bristol in 1957 at the age of 21. He was Headmaster of Windsor Boys' School for over 30 years where through his organisational ability, dedication and management skills he made a tremendous impact turning the school round to become one of the very best in the Home Counties. He retired from the school in 1997 and became a member of The British Sports Council. Peter received an OBE for services.

Peter played for Windsor in the 1960s and 70s, representing both Windsor 1st XV and as a county player for Berkshire. He was President of Windsor Rugby Club for 7 years from 1998-2005 and prior to that, Peter was also President of Old Windsorians. In 2007 the club organised a surprise dinner in his honour to mark 50 years in Windsor.

Peter was a true gentleman in every sense of the word, great company whether at Windsor watching ruby or at an England International. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. May he rest in peace.

Our thoughts go out to Peter's wife Annamaria and family at this very sad time. Peter's son Simon, who joined us for the minute's silence before last Saturday's home match was himself a Windsor player, Captaining the 1st XV in 1992.

The funeral will take place at St Edwards Church, Alma Road, Windsor SL4 3HJ at midday on Friday 4th May 2018. This will be followed by burial in Windsor, family members only, and a wake at Windsor RFC.

For catering purposes Simon Blake needs some idea of the number of people attending the wake.  If you are attending can you please email Ian Potter at

Tributes and Donations

A tribute page for Peter has been set up at

The family have suggested two charities for anyone who wishes to make a donation in memory of Peter: Dementia UK, as Peter’s last battle was fighting vascular dementia, but also The Brain Tumour Charity, in memory of Nicola, Peter’s daughter who sadly died last year, aged 50.
